The Prince George Chamber of Commerce hosted their 2016 Business Excellence Awards tonight at the Civic Centre with more than 280 in attendance. The Business Excellence Awards is an annual event hosted by the Prince George Chamber of Commerce to celebrate excellence in ten traditional award categories as well as the third annual Hell Yeah Prince George Ambassador award which involves an online public vote. The Business Excellence Awards always takes place in October as part of the Small Business Month annual celebrations.
A ‘Back to the Awards’ theme was chosen for this year’s event playing off the classic 1985 hit movie “Back to the Future”. Several guests donned puffy red “Marty McFly” vests and high top running shoes. There were a handful of people in character as “Doc” Emmett Brown, which helped in celebrating the fact that the evening occurred on the actual 78th birthday of Christopher Lloyd, the original Back to the Future actor in Doc’s character.
Taking on the role of Emcee at the eleventh hour, Kyle Sampson and Doug Jones helped create an atmosphere of jovial celebration while remaining focused on the exemplary work demonstrated by our business community. 6ixSigma Productions had guests rolling with laughter at their short film depicting Chamber CEO as an award winning basket weaver.
Ten awards were handed out in categories ranging from the prestigious Business Person of the Year to the ever popular Service Excellence Award. Voting for the Hell Yeah Prince George Ambassador Award, which occurred publically on Facebook, generated almost 400 more votes this year as compared to last. This award recognizes an individual or organization who has demonstrated community pride and a commitment to making Prince George a positive place to live and work.
