The Chamber Carbon Action Plan or C2AP is a rebrand of the Prince George Chamber of Commerce’s Carbon Reduction Project. Since 2015, with CN as the primary funder, this project embraces student talents from the University of Northern British Columbia to assist local businesses to reduce greenhouse gases. University students create customized, carbon footprint analyses for voluntary Chamber members. Carbon Interns also create analyses plus assist businesses that want to reduce their carbon footprints. C2AP is a hands-on learning opportunity for educating the community on how reducing fossil fuel usage reduces operational expenses.
C2AP was pleased to host a National Tree Day Celebration on Wednesday, September 25. We publicly thanked this year’s funders: BC Hydro, CN Railway, and the Pacific Institute for Climate Solutions. Four newly planted blue spruce trees were dedicated at Duchess Park. Three of which were dedicated to businesses that became carbon neutral through C2AP: Northern Lights Estate Winery, Prince George Driving For Life Academy, Timberline Footfitters. The fourth tree was dedicated to C2AP’s future.

All of this could not be done without the seven-year commitment of the primary Chamber funder, Canadian National Railway. This project continues to partner UNBC’s “Carbon and Energy Management” class to produce customized analyses for each business volunteer. Kyle Aben of Carbon Realities continues to oversee the analyses. We are fortunate to have two Carbon Interns this year, Hannah Renaud (sponsored by PICS) and Louisa Hadley (sponsored by CN).
Volunteers to have their carbon footprints done are:
|BC Northern Real Estate Board||TDB Consultants|
|Big Brothers Big Sisters of PG||Team Powerhouse Realty|
|Canadian Vocation Training Centre||Thrifty Friends Society|
|Norcan Consulting||Timberline Footfitters|
|North Edge Ice Sports||Vanway Kitchen + Bath|
|Northern Lights Estate Winery||Workforce Development Consulting Services of Northern BC|
|Prince George Driving For Life |
C2AP looks forward to working with other Chambers and post-secondary institutions to replicate this concept.
